Plattsburg man arrested on child pornography charges

A 26-year-old Plattsburg resident has been arrested on child pornography charges.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control arrested Andrew M. Kennedy on Friday for possession of child pornography.

Public Information Officer for Troop H, Sergeant Jacob Angle says the arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by several departments and task forces.

"The thing about it is that it was a cooperative effort actually between Missouri High Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control, Digital Forensics Investigation Unit, Western Missouri Cyber Crimes Taskforce, and the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce."

Last Friday investigators contacted Kennedy at his residence located in Plattsburg. Kennedy was found to be in possession of electronic equipment containing child pornography. Investigators seized the child pornography and electronic equipment.

Sergeant Angle encourages the public to report any illegal activity.

"If anyone attempts to engage in unwanted, inappropriate, or sexualized communication with children, we encourage people to report that.  And they can do that in a variety of ways.  They can contact the Missouri State Highway direct.  They can contact local law enforcement.  But what we want to emphasize there is that it's just reported, because this is obviously something that needs to stop, and the only way this is going to stop is if people report it when they become aware of it.  That's one of the key ways a lot of this is reported and uncovered is through obviously public assistance."

Kennedy was arrested and transported to the Clinton County Jail. On Saturday, the Andrew County Prosecuting Attorney's Office formally charged Kennedy with one count of possession of child pornography. Kennedy's bond was set at $10,000.
